Senior
Pets for Senior Homes www.7bellssanctuary.petfinder.com
We begin
this month by keeping those fur-children and their guardians in the path
of Hurricane Katrina in our prayers.
We offer
sympathy to JoAnne, on the loss of Rhapsody and Sue on the loss of
Daphne. Sadly, we took Peanut to Doc Anstaett as her body began shutting
down and there was nothing more to be done for her. Marti held her
tenderly to and from Doc's. She was buried in her favorite little red
blanket. They have now gone ahead to wait at the Rainbow Bridge.
Visits to
the Good Samaritan Care Center were made by Sassy Garda, NKA Shaylee,
Haley, and Lil Hans. Lil Hans was a huge hit. Several residents took
turns holding him, petting him, then another would say "I want to
hold him now" and he got passed from lap to lap. Staff told us more
of the local residents in town are taking their pets to visit. One
brings her two poodles in a stroller! Another takes her morning walk
with her pet through the hallways.
Adoptions
for the month were June Bug (joining Cindy who was previously adopted
from our rescue), Haley, Daisy, Sassy Garda, and Lil King Tut.
Delta
Dawn had 2 surgeries. Her left eye had to be removed, then two weeks
later the right eye. Doc Johnson had hoped to save her vision, yet it
was not to be. Her eyes were so badly damaged from neglect that he had
no option. We did not even think of putting her down. Doc agreed. Lil
Hans was in a freak accident and ended up with his jaw broken. We asked
Doc Anstaett to "Please save him." Doc wired one side
permanently. The other side required a temporary plate with 3 screws
that will be removed in about 8 weeks. His bones are very soft. Combined
with his age, recovery will be slow.
The
garage sale fund raisers at Doug Dieckman's Auction Center are nearing
an end. The last one will be Sept. 2-5, 9AM - 5PM. We will attend Sat.
Sept. 3, 9AM to Noon, due to availability of volunteers and heat on the
dogs. Marti & Ruby did a great job taking care of the booth. They
love to sit, chat and sack up purchases. We again thank those of you
that sent us items for the garage sale or dropped by with items. All
donations go for veterinarian care of the dogs. Mary and Tipi Girl made
a surprise visit at the August fund raiser. We were so thrilled to see
Tipi again. She is obviously thriving under the one-on-one care of Mary.
Sir Alex
is in foster care with Buck, traveling in an 18 wheeler promoting
adoptions from shelters and rescues. Delta Dawn is in foster care with
Marti. Lil Tito is in foster care with Becky and her family. Isabel is
in foster care with Kris and her family. Our greatest need at this time
is foster homes. We especially need more Hospice foster homes. Please
contact us if you can provide death with dignity and compassion. We will
help you every step of the way. It won't be easy, yet it will be the
most compassionate thing you can do for a faithful companion that has
been abandoned in his/her very hour of need.
We had a
swell work day with SWMOK9s Rescue on Aug. 31st, fixing fence for one of
their foster homes at Fordland. Carl Nylund of KC Rescue was also there.
TEAMwork.
Together Everyone Achieves Much!
Last, but
not least, Lexington MO is now on Petfinder. We were contacted by Connie
T to help with some dogs. We explained that Petfinder works & we
would help get them on Petfinder. She rounded up some volunteers, Vena,
Jaime, Tom, and they now have the site listed. They hope to get more
volunteers to form a Friends for the Friendless group to help shelter
dogs get better care upon arrival and find them good fur-ever homes.
Please check their site often.
