Pets for Senior Homes www.7bellssanctuary.petfinder.com
We begin
this month by keeping the fur-children of Katrina in our prayers.
We offer
sympathy to many this month beginning with Lynn on the loss of Noel
Joseph, her Christmas Angel. Also to Jim on the loss of Pepper, Barb on
the loss of Sooner, Pam on the loss of Bonz, Michelle on the loss of
Amy, and Kerri & Henry on the loss of Lady. This was the Lady that
helped get us started in rescue. She touched many lives during her all
too brief time with Henry & Kerri.
Visits to
the Good Samaritan Care Center were a bit sluggish this month. Lil Hans
went in during the activity called Hoop Toss. One of the residents held
the hoop as Lil Hans showed how he could jump through it. We were able
to give a short presentation about the importance of calcium to strong
bones. Lil Hans is an example of poor nutrition. His bones are soft,
thus the broken jaw is taking twice as long as it should to heal. He
never complains. He just laps up his soup consistency food. He has his
own little blender. When he hears it, he comes running to the kitchen.
Adoptions
for the month were Delta Dawn, Isabel, Bunny, Fancy, Cisco and Poncho.
Delta Dawn may be blind, yet that not did stop Jane & Kenny from
falling in love with her. They saw beyond her disability and have made
room for her in their home with their two senior shih tzus.
We had
our final garage sale fund raiser at Doug Dieckman's Auction. We are so
very thankful for the use of the building, the donated merchandise,
those that attended and made purchases, for the volunteers that helped
with the booth. The funds raised help us care for our
"Lifers."
Sir Alex
is in foster care with Buck in his 18 wheeler traveling primarily east
coast, yet also getting into Texas. Charlie Brown is doing splendidly
with Steve & Mindi in his foster home in Nebraska. They are taking
excellent care of his special needs and he is showing much improvement.
Tami has started a group called Charlie's Angels to pray for him. We
believe in the Power of Prayer. Lil Tito is now in foster care with
Betty & Howard. Kirby is in foster care with Kris. Lucy is in foster
care with Catherine. Becky is currently without a dog to foster as she
prepares to move. Marti is currently without a Hospice dog to care for.
We hope to remedy that situation very soon. She needs to have a dog to
cook for and fuss over. We are still in desperate need of foster homes
and especially, Hospice foster homes. Please contact us if you can
provide death with dignity and compassion. It won't be easy yet it will
be the most compassionate thing you will ever do for a faithful
companion that has been abandoned in his/her very hour of need.
We were
honored when Carl of KCRescue volunteered his time to do some electrical
wiring for the large dog areas, house and barn. He also helped improve
our large dog play area so that Jaxs could have room to run without
being able to get out when he scares up a rabbit. Carl found the
"To Do" list ever changing, thus had to make a return trip
Oct. 1, and JoAnne also joined in to help. We are extremely grateful for
volunteer help. With JoAnne's help, we were able to get all of the dogs'
nails, ears, worm/flea/tick preventatives, update vaccinations and chart
all in the same day. Yeah!!
We have
also realized that we must get our numbers down a bit. We have been
unable to visit the local care center as often as we would like and that
is priority for us with these senior dogs. We have had so many great
dogs coming in, yet we must say "No!" or we will be unable to
adequately care for the ones already here and committed to. Your
patience during this time will be appreciated.
