October
Senior Pets for Senior Homes Newsletter
Oct. 1,
2004, the month of September has been a very busy one. We start by
mourning the passing of Bless, 7 Bells 402H. She came here May 25 with
just a few days to live. She crossed to the Rainbow Bridge on Sept. 12.
There is a tribute to Bless on our web-site,
www.7bellssanctuary.petfinder.com under the Happy Tails.
Rascal
was adopted Sept. 8, goes to work almost daily with his guardian, spends
the evenings at the lake and week-ends are spent camping. We then
welcomed LadyBug, a 7 yr. old yellow lab, sponsored by Don and Sue. She
often visits the residents of the care center, spending most of the time
in Don's room when Sue is also there. We also welcomed Bijou, a cocker
mix and our first cat, Oscar. We are thrilled that the City of Cole Camp
dogs were all saved from Death Row. One dalmation and four beagles were
all adopted. We are overjoyed that several of the dogs listed for
Windsor also have been adopted. Seventeen dogs were listed on Sept. 16
and nine dogs have been adopted as of the end of September. There were
many people working tirelessly on behalf of the Windsor dogs, plus some
wonderful folks helped with donations. Our very own Maple Street Cafe
and Bakery, Audra, and Rosebud Gifts and Fabrics, Marla, in Cole Camp
put on a fund raising effort to provide surgery for one of the most
urgent cases, WACO 212, now known as Bijou. Catherine also sent some
very generous donations to help save some of the dogs. We are truly
grateful for all they did. We have been listing other senior dogs on our
site by request and were pleased to update their status to Adopted.
Several
of our rescue dogs spent the month visiting our Good Samaritan Care
Center. Rascal, Otto accompanied by Marti of the Community Retirement
Village, Miss Maggie and LadyBug went several times during the month.
Otto was also accompanied by Isabella, one of our youngest volunteers.
The resident cats, Cali and Simon visited. Some of the residents prefer
cats. LadyBug, Cali and Simon also made a special appearance to the Mo.
Veterans' Home in Warrensburg. They have been asked to return in October
when state inspectors are in so that they can see what a difference pet
visits make for the residents. Lil Otto has been quite the talk of the
town since his picture and story appeared in our Cole Camp Courier. He
was shown with the senior village people and they are all so famous now.
Lil Otto has good days and bad days and Marti has him in her care most
of the time. She spends her time holding him and comforting him. Her
help is a huge blessing to us and especially to Lil Otto. They can often
be seen strolling about town and everyone loves to greet the little guy.
We have
to give a huge round of thanks to the petfinder folks that provide our
web-site. Brent worked extra hard to help get the Windsor dogs shown on
the home page. He is so talented and always ready to lend a hand with a
problem or special request. Thanks Brent!
Thanks to
everyone for all the help you have given.
