To
begin, we give THANKS as another season of Thanksgiving approaches.
This newsletter is longer than usual. So much is happening. We are
still growing, trying not to grow so much that we cannot adequately
provide for the ones we are already committed to. As Carl with KC
Rescue told me ages ago "Learn to say "NO!" or you put
everything already committed to at risk." Foster homes are in
close touch, all doing a good job, working tirelessly to find the best
home possible for the fur-kids.
We
offer sympathy to Andrea on the passing of CookieMonster, Judy, Kevin
& Kaleb on the passing of Yoda, Larry, Esther & Steph on the
passing of Penny, Tina on the passing of Ava, Sandy on the passing of
Duchess. K-9 Bereavement Counselor contact is Michelle at mzcgrief@yahoo.com
if you need to talk with someone who understands your grief.
Profiles
of the fur-kids in foster homes are notated accordingly. The foster's
documentation of their pet's likes & dislikes helps you know if
this fur-kid will be suitable for your home.
Care
Center visits were Oct 11, Dachshund Race/Walk, Talent Show, Fashion
Show. It was literally a tail wagging & barking good time. Oct.
25, 6th Annual Halloween Pets on Parade Fun Show had 23 pets including
a miniature horse, a cat, 21 K-9s, all well behaved. Whiteman Air
Force Base 509th Medical unit & American Legion Post 305 were the
honored guests with special recognition given to the residents that
had served many years ago. Land of the free because of the brave.
Adoptions
began with Naomi (adoption handled by Judy V), continued with Bubbles
& Daisy leaving the same day with Marti present to wave good-bye
to them. Judy V failed Fostering 101, adopted Allie. Chase celebrated
his birthday by getting a fur-ever home, taking MaryAnn & Fabio
with him to share his new life. Boo's adoption was handled by foster
mom Andrea handing her over to her new family. Foster mom Judy V
placed JudithAnn in her new family's arms. We are always grateful for
the families with time & patience willing to take over where we
leave off.
Cole
Camp Pound has doubled the number of impounds from the last 2 years.
ACO Klark works hard to return any pets wearing ID tags to their
owners, not have to impound them. Without collar ID or a microchip,
off to doggy jail they go, then we are notified, list them on our
site, in the newspaper. The blue tick hound pup made it into a
fur-ever home. The senior shepherd mix was adopted, 2 hr. ride home.
The black lab got a Fairy DogMother who paid her bail. After she was
spayed she was reunited with her original family. She has been loved.
RoadRash was adopted even with her crushed pelvis. She found a home
that had physical challenges of their own, would be able to provide
the TLC she needed. The Cole Camp city pound was the proud recipient
of a $500 grant from Petco for spay/neuter thanks to the submission by
city clerk, Ruth. The only pooch remaining, Petey, a black lab/pit
bull pup, neutered, vaccinated, still needs a fur-ever home. Winter
coming on, he needs a home of his own. If you love the breed, please
consider giving Petey a home of his own, something he may give THANKS
for during Thanksgiving or consider "I'll be home for
Christmas." The greatest gift of all is LOVE.
Judy
V & Tracy have been taking their fostered pugs to public events
for exposure & social time. Folks may then contact us if
interested in adopting to go through the process. It's definitely
helping as a couple of fur-kids have found fur-ever homes through that
initial exposure.
Upcoming
Events include November spay/neuter $10 off regular fee with 4 area
veterinarians participating. Those veterinarians are listed on our
home page. Christbaumfest Nov. 22, 9AM - 4PM. We will be at Maxwell's
Woodcarving Shop, downtown Cole Camp with a few of the fur-kids to
Meet & Greet. Make a donation & select a pet item, even items
available for the whiskered ones. This will be our last fund raiser
for the year as we head into winter hibernation.
We
are so grateful when we receive those gently used items. Reduce,
Reuse, Recycle. Please continue to think of us & our little Cole
Camp/Lincoln pound before throwing anything away that may be used for
the fur-kids. At this time the greatest need is for the Cole Camp
pound. The City of Cole Camp allows us to help with pound placements.
Finding homes takes longer than their standard one week time frame.
That means ongoing feed, chew bones/toys to prevent boredom. The last
few impounds have been there over two weeks, feed became an issue. Dog
food may be dropped off at City Hall. Heated water buckets may also be
dropped off at City Hall. The black lab/pit bull, Petey, has asked for
chew toys. He's nearing 6 mo. of age. He will NOT be put down because
of his breed. We want a responsible home. The city workers are giving
Petey a lot of social time, he is very friendly. As long as he does
not become aggressive, he will be the Pound Mascot. I suppose a
"Help Petey" campaign would be good. (hehe)
Chris
came from New Mexico, spent a few days at Ft. Timmerman. She then came
on-site with Susan to see how the home rescue set-up worked here. We
were honored by her visit. She wants to establish a senior basset
rescue in her area. Our fur-kids share the house, pillows, Kuranda
beds. Old timers need that home environment to make transition into a
fur-ever home easier or just to spend their final days knowing what
soft pillows are for. Chris took home a lot of ideas & we look
forward to her basset rescue success.
We
are a K-9 rescue, senior pets & special needs. However, we realize
that many folks love the whiskered ones. Cat loving Andrea is offering
to do a few cats at a time. Boo was her first cat, adoption went well.
She now has Whiskers, Flower & Lovebug needing cat loving homes.
Bear with us as we get appropriate profiles for these fur-kids, INDOOR
homes or safe outside enclosures with indoor access.
Petfinder.com
continues to be a wealth of support for adopters & also for us. We
could not get these fur-kids placed without their assistance. THANKS
petfinder.com!
We
give thanks to each of you who so generously give of your time &
talents to help these fur-kids as they wait patiently for their
fur-ever homes. Rescue life is good, yet a fur-ever home is best. We
could not do this work without your continued support. God bless you
each & every one.
And
last, but not least, a very special prayer for those in uniform
keeping us safe & free. May God wrap His Bubble of Protection
about them & those that wait patiently for their return.
