The
only Bridge Kid we pay tribute to this month is Jamie, leaving Rain
to mourn. K-9 Bereavement Counselor contact is Michelle at mzcgrief@yahoo.com
if you need to talk with someone who understands your grief.
The
foster families are doing a really nice job with evaluations &
updates so you know if the fur-kid will be suitable for your home.
The fosters are doing shelter pulls, vet trips, grooming, reference
checks, handling adoptions, totally qualified, honest &
dependable. WE BELIEVE! We believe we have the best veterinarians,
volunteers, adopters. We believe in our fantastic folks that believe
in us & the work we do. This combined effort allows us continue
saving one fur-kid at a time. THANKS to everyone! Whatever task you
do it is very important to the fur-kids in this rescue.
Care
Center visits were Lil Max going to the Good Samaritan Care Center
with Be A Good Dog University folks Trina, Gwen & Emily &
fur-kids Amadeus & Wyatt. An agility course demonstration was
put on. For his first time doing the pole weaves & jumping
through the hoop he did rather well. From there the entire group
went to the Boys & Girls Club at the Cole Camp Elementary
School. Another agility demonstration, plus passing out little
"duty bags" & explaining how to use them to be a
responsible pet walker. Lil Max's collar was removed prior to
greeting the children. Then the collar ID was put on to show how
important it is to be able to reunite a pet with the owner.
Another
month that started out busy! Foster mom Judy V transferred 5 of the
fostered pugs to Green Mountain Pug Rescue in Vermont. It's always
mixed emotions when transfers are done. While we personally want to
hand over the fur-kids to their new family we also realize some
rescues have more foster homes than we do & more waiting
adopters. Karen & her 2 gal pals came to Cole Camp, picked up
Buster, Jacques, Kami, Tubby T & Zeke. The gals brought Maple
syrup fresh from Vermont. They left with cinnamon rolls fresh from
Maple St. Bake Shop. How sweet it was! Foster mom Andrea placed
Tramp is his new home. Jim & Jennifer placed Waldo in his new
home. Judy V placed Sinbad in his new home. There was Happy Dancing
in the Valley of 7 Bells as Judy V placed BabyCakes in her new home.
BabyCakes had waited such a long time for her big day! There was
also Happy Dancing at Ft. Timmerman as Libby became a fur-ever
member of the Ft. T. pack. We transferred Bounce, Rocky, Oscar,
& Daisy from the Sanctuary to Flaw Dogs. Pups & youngsters
work well for them. We get some of their wonderful ancients that
work better for us. TEAMwork! Together Everyone Achieves Much.
Be
A Good Dog University folks Trina, Gwen & students came on-site
again to visit with the fur-kids, all happy, co-existing peacefully.
We are honored with their sharing of information. There is much to
learn from a single pet versus a pack situation, from a beloved
house pet since a pup to a kennel dog that was only used to raise
pups for profit. Each pet has different needs, learns differently.
Easter
morning & a phone call from a deputy with Benton County
Sheriff's Dept. A K-9 accident victim, no vet available, possible
broken leg, we responded. Good Samaritans had stayed with her until
the deputy could arrive, continued to stay with her until we arrived
on scene. With one open pen for quarantine she filled that spot,
would need seen by the vet on Monday. We tagged her "Hi-way
Accident" Her owner did come forth thanks to seeing her on our
site on petfinder.com. This again stresses the importance of collar
identification. This dog was from KCMO area, visiting our area, got
away from them on Friday PM. She & her beagle companion were
both hit by the vehicle. The beagle was recovered a couple of days
later, bruised yet alive.
Upcoming
Events - We are planning a work date with more improvements to the
Cole Camp pound. Public Works Director AKA Animal Control Officer
Klark has requested 2 more concrete kennel pads. It's a lot of work
to get the site properly prepared, ready for the concrete. We are
grateful for the offers of assistance.
Bark
in the Park may be over by the time some of you get this. Whiteman
Air Force Base & hostesses Donna & Andrea helped us plan
this "Meet & Greet" some of the fur-kids &
volunteers. Or, it may have been postponed due to all the storms we
have been experiencing.
Maifest
is Saturday, May 9, Mother's Day week-end. You may check our home
page for a full list of activities. All times are flexible & may
be subject to a bit of change. Please just come for the day, have
fun, good food, bring the fur-kids of course. We have more
businesses that are making outdoor dining with your pet a fun time.
They are listed on our home page with phone numbers.
Petfinder.com
should be checked out weekly for their many on-line services. Enter
your adopted pet in their Happy Tail contest, you may be eligible to
win a great gift from The Animal Rescue Site.
Wish
List - We are so grateful when we receive those gently used items.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Please continue to think of us & our
little Cole Camp/Lincoln pound before throwing anything away that
may be used for the fur-kids. Baby gates, gently used gift bags any
size & decoration are most welcomed.
We
give thanks to each of you who so generously give of your time &
talents to help these fur-kids as they wait patiently for their
fur-ever homes. Rescue life is good, yet a fur-ever home is best. We
could not do this work without your continued support. God bless you
each & every one.
And
last, but not least, a very special prayer for those in uniform
keeping us safe & free. In the words of a dear friend "How
would we have the ability to take the time, enjoy the right to do
so, if not for the sacrifices made, by our men and women in uniform?
Perhaps today, they are sitting in a trench, walking a patrol, in
harm's way ... Freedom has never been free: they are making
payments. To our men and women in uniform: Thank You!"
