Foster
families continue to do an outstanding job with updates on the
fur-kids in their care. Those updates will help us & you know if a
particular fur-kid is suitable for your home.
Queen
Bea visited the Good Samaritan Care Center. She loves people, wags her
tail, sniffs fingers, brings smiles to residents & staff.
Adoptions
were Nicholas & Jayden, the younger "sacrificial lambs"
that help us care for the ancients & special needs that take so
much longer to find fur-ever homes. Then Jim & Jennifer handled
the adoption of Cuddles, another "sacrificial lamb" to help
us with the ancients. They are learning first-hand the difference
between an older kennel dog with lack of social skills & a puppy
fresh from a breeder, still young enough to learn to trust, play like
a puppy should play. When our foster family is able to hand over their
fostered fur-kid to the new family it makes loving & letting go
easier. Adoptions continued with Wendy leaving from Marti's foster
care. Buddy left from the sanctuary, followed by Beaver & Pip.
Foster moms Judy V & Barbara handled the adoption of Cass, Lucas,
Gizmo, Rose & Belinda while Andrea handled the adoption of
Waverly.
The
Cole Camp pound only had 2 beagles impounded during February. The
owner paid their bail, then put them on house arrest in another town.
Upcoming
Events will be Maifest, May 9, a time for games for the children to be
celebrated in historic downtown Cole Camp. We are assisting the
Maifest Committee in hopes of bringing more pet games & fun to the
event. Children do so love to show off their furry friends. Maifest is
for the young & young at heart. It is NOT limited to Cole Camp
folks so if you have plans to get out & about in May, please come
visit our little town, bring your pets. There is something for
everyone.
All
other items - We are now listed on the www.colecampmo.com
website maintained by webmaster Art Heimsoth. We are on both Business
& Services section so HOPE more pet friendly folks will visit our
lovely historic community. Our non-profit 501 (c) 3 application has
been filed by the attorney. IRS has acknowledged receipt of the
application. This should assist us with grants for spay/neuter to help
local citizens, also help with grants for educational materials for
the children in the schools. We MUST reach the children NOW to make a
difference for future pets. We have volunteers ready to apply for
grants once the IRS makes a determination. We have been advised the
determination may take several months so PATIENCE is requested.
Foster
mom Judy V has been wearing her paws slick! She is getting more calls
to help local folks with unwanted pups. Her approach is the locals
MUST spay the females, neuter the males if the males are in their
possession. THEN she will assist with the pups. The owners must take
care of the pups until adoptive homes are located. They are altered by
Judy V's vet PRIOR to placement. Another rescue is helping Judy V as
they LOVE those mixed breed pups. Foster moms Michelle & Connie
are also pitching in to help Judy V. TEAMwork! Together Everyone
Achieves Much.
Petfinder.com
was our "motivating" factor on the non-profit application.
They encouraged rescues to make the non-profit status a New Year's
resolution & we followed their suggestion. Petfinder.com helps
rural areas especially with visibility to get our pets adopted. There
is also a new book written by Kim Saunders, Petfinder.com's Vice
President of Shelter Outreach, "The Adopted Dog Bible." This
is a one step resource for choosing, training, & caring for
sheltered & rescued pets. It's hard to put this book down once you
start reading it. It is a well written book to cover a variety of
issues with adopted pets, some that come with baggage, emotional and
physical issues.
Wish
List - We are so grateful when we receive those gently used items.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Please continue to think of us & our
little Cole Camp/Lincoln pound before throwing anything away that may
be used for the fur-kids.
We
give thanks to each of you who so generously give of your time &
talents to help these fur-kids as they wait patiently for their
fur-ever homes. Rescue life is good, yet a fur-ever home is best. We
could not do this work without your continued support. God bless you
each & every one.
And
last, but not least, a very special prayer for those in uniform
keeping us safe & free. There are several being deployed from
Whiteman AFB that need our extra prayers, the list thus far is John,
Brad, Kevin & Chris.

we have the ability to take the time, enjoy the right to do so, if not
for the sacrifices made, by our men and women in uniform? Perhaps
today, they are sitting in a trench, walking a patrol, in harm's way
... Freedom has never been free: they are making payments. To our men
and women in uniform: Thank You!"
