June
marks the 5th anniversary of our operation as a rescue licensed by
the Missouri Department of Agriculture. We are extremely grateful
for those that have been with us on this journey.
Bridge
Kids begin with sympathy to Janet & Jena on the passing of
Walter, to Vi on the passing of Joy. On 05-14 Jim Maxwell, dad to
Bijou, passed away at his home leaving Margie & Bijou &
our community to mourn his passing. Jim had been one of the
Maifest bicycle/tricycle judges on Saturday May 9th, all smiles.
The
foster families are doing a really nice job with evaluations &
updates so you may know if the fur-kid will be suitable for your
home.
Care
Center visits were BoBo, KiKi, Tickles. Barb brought Chipper back
for a visit & Marti brought Karly for a visit. Allan joined
the merry band of fur-kids. We took fur-kids that would be great
on the laps of the residents. Tickles even dozed off for a nap in
the arms of one resident in his wheelchair. Chipper spent almost
his entire time in one resident's lap, such a little cuddlebug.
Adoptions
began with Judy V placing Jonathon in his new home. Allan &
Mona placed Benitha "Beni" in her new home. Andrea sent
Droopy off for his new home, then sent TweetieBird to her new
home. Judy V once again wore her paws slick placing Sheila, Nola
& Frick all in one day. Mary placed Buddy in his new home.
Judy V ended the month placing Oscar in his fur-ever home.
PLEASE
remember to register your microchip!!! If you have not yet done
so, please make it a priority as you never know when your pet may
come up lost, strayed, stolen.
Cole
Camp pound yellow lab mix, Goldie, was transferred to another
rescue. She overstayed her welcome, an eviction notice was served.
Future impounds will adhere to the usual time frame. One week will
be to allow the owner to reclaim. One week will be to find an
adopter or rescue. Max was transferred to us so he could have the
proper skin care needed.
Bark
in the Park at Whiteman Air Force Base was postponed due to
standing water on Ike Skelton Park & more storms in the
forecast. The plan is for an autumn event.
Maifest
was Saturday, May 9, with many adopted & fostered fur-kids
participating. Over 25 pets had signed up, then the registration
desk ran out of forms. What a lovely turnout it was. The
volunteers, fosters, adopters all pitched in to make it a doggone
good time. K-9 Red Hat Society Fur-kids were in attendance with
Char, the Queen Mother in her splendor! Some of the school
children were on the corners at the 4-Way stop doing a
"Rocking for Paws" in rocking chairs thanks to Tara. Be
A Good Dog University folks were there with the agility course,
pet games. They also provided some one-on-one with some of the
pets in attendance for obedience items.
May
23 was the Montrose Fair. Judy V took several of the fostered
fur-kids, joined the parade, had a booth set up to raise awareness
of rescue fur-kids.
Upcoming
Events - We are planning a work date with more improvements to the
Cole Camp pound. Public Works Director AKA Animal Control Officer
Klark has requested 2 more concrete kennel pads. It's a lot of
work to get the site properly prepared, ready for the concrete. We
are grateful for the offers of assistance.
June
6 will be Cole Camp's Car Show, Motorcycle Show, Bar-B-Q contest.
On the lawn at Rosebud Gifts & Fabric there will be pet fun
with Be A Good Dog University folks with agility and pet games.
Petfinder.com
should be checked out weekly for their many on-line services.
Enter your adopted pet in their Happy Tail contest, you may be
eligible to win a great gift from The Animal Rescue Site.
Wish
List - We are so grateful when we receive those gently used items.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Please continue to think of us & our
little Cole Camp/Lincoln pound before throwing anything away that
may be used for the fur-kids. Baby gates, gently used gift bags
any size & decoration are most welcomed.
We
give thanks to each of you who so generously give of your time
& talents to help these fur-kids as they wait patiently for
their fur-ever homes. Rescue life is good, yet a fur-ever home is
best. We could not do this work without your continued support.
God bless you each & every one.
2009
has been proclaimed as The Year of the Military Family, resolution
introduced by Rep. Ike Skelton. To summarize his words "We
benefit from the dedication & sacrifices of our service
members & their families, thus have a responsibility to show
our appreciation." We will be doing more during 2009 to
support our troops. Please join us if you care to do so.
And
last, but not least, a very special prayer for those in uniform
keeping us safe & free. In the words of a dear friend "How
would we have the ability to take the time, enjoy the right to do
so, if not for the sacrifices made, by our men and women in uniform?
Perhaps today, they are sitting in a trench, walking a patrol, in
harm's way ... Freedom has never been free: they are making
payments. To our men and women in uniform: Thank You!"
