Elvis
became an Angel Dog with Bobbie, his adoptive mom, in attendance. Elvis
was typical of so many old, black, gentle fur-kids. Dumped in a shelter
near the end of his life, then given a pardon, pulled from Death Row,
rescue life, then along came Bobbie. Elvis literally chose her to be his
fur-ever mom. Rescue life was good, yet the life Bobbie offered him was
even better.
Foster
Care finds Ringo is in Fur-Ever Foster Care with Colleen. Snowball is
back on site while Marti takes a vacation in sunny California with her
sister & family. "Hoppy" & Jolly are with Susan,
Alyssa with Gerry, Chloe with Colleen, Jessie with Judy V., Carli with
Judy B., Abraham & Lilly with Sid & Kelly, Heather & Luci
with Sue.
Good
Samaritan Care Center visits were done by Omi who wants to start her own
K-9 Red Hat Society. She wore a red collar, purple harness. Snowball was
the final entry in the Vintage Fashion Show, showing off her
red/white/braided/jeweled jacket riding in the wheelchair on the lap of
a resident.
Finding
fur-ever homes were Lucy, Patches & Beagle Boy Henry. Judy V handled
Clara's adoption. Trixie found a fur-ever home through efforts of Dawn.
We transferred a total of 9 fur kids from kill shelters & breeders
to other rescues that spay/neuter prior to adoption. We are simply so
full, yet wanted these to get to safety.
The Cole
Camp/Lincoln pound has been full & over full. A total of 7 dogs for
the month arrived, none wearing identification. 2 were returned to their
owners. 1 was adopted, vaccinated & spayed prior to going home with
her new mom. 4 were transferred to other shelters/rescues. Jo Anne
networked the 2 Lincoln pound dogs, found them safe haven, took the
first leg of their trip. Our wish list is for gently used medium &
large dog collars for the pound dogs. Rarely do small dogs come to the
pound. You may mail the collars to City of Cole Camp, Attn: ACO Klark,
PO Box 36, Cole Camp, MO 65325 or to us at 26152 Donkey Ln., Cole Camp,
MO 65325.
For those
asking for an update on Darlene, she had a followup vet visit for CBC
which showed a bit low in iron. She is on iron supplements in addition
to her glucosamine & j/d Science Diet formula. She will be 15 yrs.
old Sept. 1. She still has challenges getting up, walking, yet doesn't
appear to be in pain. We will continue to baby her along.
Georgie
is with the 4H Searchers sharing custody for vetting, training,
grooming, & searching for her fur-ever home. The young people of
today are the future of the pets of the future. We are so pleased they
would help with this Cole Camp pound dog.
One day
each month is spent doing preventatives, another day grooming. Paula
& Alesha of Polly's Precious Paws, Trina our behaviorist, Marti
& I all pitched in this month to take care of the volume on site.
Trina evaluates the fur-kids while here, giving suggestions for training
& behavior modification. Trina has also been evaluating the Cole
Camp & Lincoln pound dogs, making suggestions to help relieve stress
from confinement. Klark & Brian are walking the dogs as much as time
permits. They get daily turn out time in the huge exercise yard. They
are wormed, given flea/tick preventatives, good food, fresh water.
Please
update your emergency contact list for family & pets. If you do not
have a contact list, now is the time to make one. With the recent
hospitalization of Joyce, fall of ReGina, it's been a wake-up call to
all of us to have a plan in place for letting others know how to care
for our pets should we be unable to do so.
Our
monthly trip to exchange the young dogs for old dogs included Wabbit's
mom Judith. Meeting us in JC was Mary, mom to Tipi Girl & Penny.
Sally & Carol came from Morse Mill. Lunch was at the lovely park
just a block west of the dog park, beautiful flowers, pavilion, water,
shade, picnic tables.
Michelle
is offering her counseling to anyone who has experienced the loss of a
pet. The web address for grief counseling is mzcgrief@yahoo.com
We
suggest checking the home page of petfinder.com once a week. A wealth of
info. is at your fingertips.
Your
continued support, whether financial, donated dog items, volunteering
time with the dogs, spreading the word, or prayers is the reason we
continue & even grow a bit. Our deepest thanks as we could not do it
without you.
And last,
but not least, a very special prayer for our heros here and in a far
away land keeping us safe and free. May God watch over them & those
that wait patiently for their return.
