Senior
Pets for Senior Homes www.7bellssanctuary.petfinder.com
This
month we are pleased that we have no Bridge Kids to announce. The
Memorial to Mayor R. E. Harris will continue through the 4th of July.
We had a
very unusual month of adoptions. Several of our foster homes failed
Fostering 101, by adopting. Yeah! Charlie Brown, Sir Alex, Lil Alan,
Michael (Mikey) foster failures, great fur-ever homes. Into our Fur-ever
Foster Program (patterned after Ellen's Twilight Senior Program) were
Winston, Misty, Ringo. A regular adoption was Hermione. Lil Eric was
transferred to Sally. We also took in 10 pups & 1 adult from a vet
via breeder, immediately transferred them to other rescues that would
spay/neuter prior to adoption. In exchange for those pups, we came back
with the most wonderful seniors & special needs fur-kids. Yeah!!
Fosters
for the month include Sir Victor with Marti, Lizzie with Jo Anne,
Tootsie & Hoppy with Susan.
Visits to
the Good Samaritan Care Center were made by Sir Victor & Marti.
On June
15 we were invited to speak at the Boonslick Regional Library in Cole
Camp, their summer program. The program was on Animal Rescue, beginning
with a talk by Tom, ACO for Cole Camp. He explained how a dog ends up in
the pound, the importance of collar ID, how he checks for a microchip,
how the city advertises to find a home, adoptions, rescue or death. I
then spoke about being kind to animals, food, water, shelter, love,
collar ID, veterinary care, spay/neuter. Marti then spoke about her
Hospice program & how senior pets often end up in shelters to be
killed. Jo Anne then gave a talk using a personal dog to explain the
importance of a microchip to prove ownership. There were 14 children in
attendance with 6 adults. We MUST begin to make a difference tomorrow by
reaching the children today.
If you
have not yet done so, please check out our home page for the link to
Charlie Brown's Blog, & the new link for Chappy's Place. Susan will
let the foster kids use her computer to help educate others about foster
care, bring awareness to the need. The only way we have been able to
increase our volume is through fantastic foster homes.
We cannot
thank Loren enough for the great foster homes & adopters she steered
our way by fostering Mikey, then putting him on Fox TV. We only hope
more shelter & rescue dogs are finding great homes through her
efforts.
We also
thank Carl for another work day to make improvements for the small dogs.
We also thank Karl & Susan for new pics for some of the fur-kids,
Sherry for updating 1-800-Save-A-Pet, Pets911. While the majority of our
fur-kids find homes through Petfinder.com, the extra exposure may help
one more find a new home. We had an end-of-the month bath day with Susan
& Marti helping bathe & chart all the small dogs.
Jo Anne
will be assisting Lincoln as their city pound liaison with Cole Camp
pound. With the distance between our towns, the need became apparent, Jo
Anne was up to the challenge.
We give
thanks to each of you who so graciously give of your time & talents
to help these wonderful old ones as they wait patiently for their
fur-ever home.
