Foster families are still doing a
tremendous job with the fur-kids entrusted to their care. Their
updates on the progress of the fur-kids helps you know if this pet
is suitable for your home, less chance of a failed adoption.
Good
Samaritan Care Center visits were woefully lacking this month. We
hope to get back into the swing of things as the residents do so
love furry visitors.
Adoptions began with
MartiAnn to get the first fur-ever home of the new year. Susan
handled the second adoption the same day with EllieMae leaving Ft.
Timmerman. Teri was a Failed Fostering 101 fur-kid, got her fur-ever
home with her foster mom. Tracy & family failed Fostering 101,
Ruby & Pearl getting their fur-ever home. We LOVE such a failed
foster! Then it was Cassie's turn for her fur-ever home, followed by
Christmas Candy, one very fortunate special needs fur-kid. The month
ended with 2 of the corgi pups & Teresa, the shih tzu pup,
adopted with Judy V placing the fur-kids in their new family's arms.
Lastly, out went Benji, the poodle pup.
Cole Camp Pound began the
year with one basset. Then along came 8 puppies city worker Brian
found left in a plastic tub at the pound gate. The pound is not set
up for small puppies. A licensed rescue with a fondness for puppies
agreed to take the pups. Allan & Jennifer transported them. They
were quarantined, altered, 7 adopted & 1 still waiting for a
home. Animal Control Ofcr. Klark has a Wish List for the pound -
more concrete pads, electrical line to the kennels for heated water
bowls in the winter, more dog houses, repair on the kennels &
fencing as some larger more determined breeds have managed to
escape. This year the pound intakes have doubled in size from the
past 2 years. We are hoping to offer some assistance on spaying the
females PRIOR to having puppies to help prevent a really busy 2009
year at the pound. Marti & Mildred are keeping posters made for
the local businesses that have Pennies for Pooches collection jars
to help the Cole Camp pound dogs. We also give a portion of our
rescue fundraisers to the city pound project.
Wish List - We are so
grateful when we receive those gently used items. Reduce, Reuse,
Recycle. Please continue to think of us & our little Cole
Camp/Lincoln pound before throwing anything away that may be used
for the fur-kids. A local church is asking for your left over
Christmas gift bags, wrapping paper, name tags for their Christmas
children's project for Dec. 2009. Another local church is asking for
crochet yarn to tack blankets for Lutheran World Relief. We will
pass those items along. You may mail them to the address on our home
page, 26152 Donkey Ln., Cole Camp MO 65325-2256 If you mark on the
outside of the box what items are in the box we will deliver them
unopened to the group in need.
Do You Have a Happy Tail?
Send your story to petfinder.com It will be entered in their monthly
Happy 'Tail' drawing, and you may win a Man's Best Friend Fun Pack
and a baseball cap from our friends at The Animal Rescue Site.
We give thanks to each of
you who so generously give of your time & talents to help these
fur-kids as they wait patiently for their fur-ever homes. Rescue
life is good, yet a fur-ever home is best. We could not do this work
without your continued support. God bless you each & every one.
Our 501 (c) 3 non-profit
application is being filed. Before we could even finish e-mailing
all of the adopters, those that responded to help us with the IRS
filing fee had reached the goal needed. Your kindness is
overwhelming. We have never wanted to go this route. We believed our
adoption fees should cover the vet bills, feed, preventatives.
However, many doors are opened to us for spay/neuter grants to help
our community, educational materials to reach the school children
(as the children of the future need educated TODAY to become
responsible pet owners) and your donations are then tax deductible.
We appreciate beyond words the faith you have placed in us and our
work. We cherish seniors & special needs. We continue to take in
the occasional pup or youngster to help with maintenance of the
older fur-kids' needs.
We have also joined the Cole
Camp Chamber of Commerce. It's a chance to help bring more folks to
our town, join in the fun activities each month, leave a few coins
in the Pennies for Pooches containers to help our Cole Camp city
pound.
And last, but not least, a
very special prayer for those in uniform keeping us safe & free.
In the words of a dear friend "How would we have the ability to
take the time, enjoy the right to do so, if not for the sacrifices
made, by our men and women in uniform? Perhaps today, they are
sitting in a trench, walking a patrol, in harm's way ... Freedom has
never been free: they are making payments. To our men and women in
uniform: Thank You!"
