Foster
care families do a fantastic job with evaluating, loving,
letting go to make room for another. Sometimes a foster family
will fail Fostering 101, adopt their fostered fur-kid. We LOVE
such a failed foster! All of our foster homes must go through
the adoption process prior to fostering. Thus an easy step to
adoption when they decide to give their foster a fur-ever
home.
Good
Samaritan Care Center visits - Rambo visited along with Don
& Bonnie from Sedalia and their silky terrier Cassidy. It
was the first time for both fur-kids to visit the care center
thus more of a walk about while most of the residents were at
lunch. Of course they both had to say "Woof" to
Donna, the administrator. DaisyDuke visited after the Zucchini
Races taking along muffins for the staff from the Maple St.
Cafe & Bake Shop. Char brought her 3 chihuahuas, Hercules,
Mr. T, Stuart Little, accompanied by Allan & I. Char had
Hercules dressed in an arctic outfit, Mr. T & Stuart were
wearing their "bling" outfits, quite the splash. All
3 fur-kids got lots of holding by the residents & Mr. T
gave little kisses. Mildred brought Elmo, her Bichon, along to
join in, wearing his Made in Cole Camp jacket she made.
Adoptions
began with Andrea placing Charly, Oliver Twist & Beatrice
in their fur-ever homes. Bryan left from the Sanctuary with
Allan & Mona making the "Special Delivery."
Luigi was transferred to Sally with FlawDogs. It's always
mixed emotions on a transfer. However, he needed IG
experienced adopters, they had several, plus had a lot of high
energy pups for him to romp & play with as he waited for
his fur-ever home. Mike placed Abby & Copper in their
fur-ever home, going together. Then he & Donna failed
Fostering 101 on Jose Cuervo, adopted him. Judy V placed
Gwendolyn in her fur-ever home. Char failed Fostering 101,
adopted Stuart Little. Karl & Susan failed Fostering 101,
adopted Lil Cochise AKA Floyd. Char placed Lil Rambo with his
fur-ever family. Jed failed Fostering 101 with SweetPea,
adopted her.
Cole
Camp pound brindle & white terrier mix male was altered,
vaccinated, then left the state with his new mom. The little
black & tan terrier was adopted locally. She was spayed
then her new family picked her up from the vet. The
terrier/beagle mix was transferred to FlawDogs. The beagle
male with a pink collar was taken into our rescue, foster home
that LOVES the breed. One black lab mix was returned to the
owner. A beagle mix was returned to his owner.
This is a
reminder for collar ID & microchip. PLEASE register your
microchip, then VERIFY 30 days later that it was done!!! Some
adopters have left their pets in care of friends or family
members, dog gets out of yard, microchip tracks back to us
rather than the new owner. Two strays south of Cole Camp were
reunited with their owner. One had collar ID, name, area
code & phone number, partner dog did not. The owner of
the dog with collar ID came, recognized the other dog as his
neighbor's, took them both back to Sedalia. Then a small
chihuahua was found southwest of town. Microchip could NOT be
traced. Seems there is a small OOPS in the ID process. A chip
is either registered to track back to the owner or a Lot
number is tracked back to the implanting vet, shelter, rescue.
These chips had neither tracking. Fortunately the local
newspaper ad resulted in the owner calling us, describing the
dog. We had listed the chi as FOUND Chi on our
web-site, no description as we wanted the owner to identify
the chi to claim him. Three children now have their beloved
chi back home.
Upcoming
Events -Per Jeff Johnson our former Whiteman Air Force
Base/Cole Camp Liaison currently serving in Afghanistan
"We've made a connection with the Chaplains here at
Kandahar Airfield - they have been working with several groups
that are supporting Afghan schools. They are in desperate need
of school supplies (pencils/paper/erasers/glue sticks/etc)
So...if Team Cole Camp could help out there. They also need
basic OTC items (aspirin; ibuprofen; acetaminophen; benadryl;
band-aids) - can't send liquids - but oral tablets and
capsules are fine." Please see the note on our petfinder
home page.
July
8 Allan & I went to Parkview School in Sedalia to speak to
approximately 100 students K-5, plus Staff, "Kindness to
Pets", taking along Lil Max. We MUST reach the youth of
today to make a difference for the pets of the future. We are
grateful for Tara's invitation & delighted at the well
behaved children in attendance. July 25 was the Zucchini Race
& Parade. Over 17 zucchini racers were entered & over
a dozen fur-kids were in the parade. It gave the fosters,
volunteers & fur-kids time to sit & visit on the lawn
of Rosebud Gifts & Fabric prior to & after the parade
& race.
Petfinder.com
had suggested in January 2009 that rescues consider applying
for tax exempt status. We have grown!. Thus attorney Karl
Timmerman filed the application Feb. 2009. July 2009 we
received IRS notification that our application had been
approved. We have grant writers that will focus on educational
materials for the school children. They will also apply for
spay/neuter funds so we may assist our community with their
pets. The local city holding facility is NOT set up for
felines. Locals have been trapping, local vet alters, then the
felines are released. Locals have set up feeding stations. We
realize there are a lot of rescues & shelters requesting
much needed funds. Thus, we will just cross our paws for the
assistance, keep raising Pennies for Pooches to help the local
pound dogs.
Wish
List - We are so grateful when we receive those gently used
items. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Please continue to think of us
& our little Cole Camp/Lincoln pound before throwing
anything away that may be used for the fur-kids.
We
give thanks to each of you who so generously give of your time
& talents to help these fur-kids as they wait patiently
for their fur-ever homes. Rescue life is good, yet a fur-ever
home is best. We could not do this work without your continued
support. God bless you each & every one.
And
last, but not least, a very special prayer for those in
uniform keeping us safe & free. In the words of a dear
friend "How would we have the ability to take the time,
enjoy the right to do so, if not for the sacrifices made, by
our men and women in uniform? Perhaps today, they are sitting
in a trench, walking a patrol, in harm's way ... Freedom has
never been free: they are making payments. To our men and
women in uniform: Thank You!"
